The history of Sotho blankets dates back to the 19th century when the Basotho people of Lesotho and South Africa first encountered European traders and missionaries. The Basotho people were known for their skill in animal husbandry and farming and traded wool and other goods with the Europeans in exchange for textiles and other items. King size mattresses are usually 76” wide and 80” long. They are most ideal for couples, especially if one or both or the partners are especially tall or have a larger frame. If you want a blanket that will be big enough to cover a bed this large, you should look for a king sized blanket. For reference, king size blanket dimensions are about 108” x 100”. Twin mattresses are great for kids and for small spaces.
Read more about plaid fourrure here. The Nuzzie Knit, unlike traditional weighted blankets, has a breathable weave that prevents heat from being trapped inside. You also need to consider the type of fabric and the fillers within the weighted blanket to ensure proper care and wash at the end of the day. Remember to also consider the fabric of your blankets before spot-treating them.

To make the blanket as written, you’ll need about 14 skeins of WET&Q or about 1,380 yards (1,262 meters) of super bulky #6 weight yarn. If you change yarn brands, the number of skeins will likely vary because each yarn has a different amount of yarn in each skein. See the yardage chart in the pattern for more details.
When your first skein of yarn is almost done with about 3-6 inches left, attach some new yarn from a new skein. You can do this by tying the end of the new yarn to the previous one with a simple square knot. The nice thing about this Bernat Blanket BIG yarn, is that you can leave small tails in the knots because it has a lot of texture to keep the knots in place. This was a great refresher tutorial but the step of tying only three sides then flipping the blanket right side out was skipped.
So if you use an anti-pill fabric pinking sheers won’t be needed. Fold the blanket and wrap with a ribbon (or even a piece of the fabric that you trimmed off). Our local Moms in Motion group (go MIMs!) donates these books and blankets to inner city school children through a program called Buddies, Bridges & Brains based in Victor, NY. I’ve been knitting and crocheting for more than a decade, and am proud to host a community that brings together millions of crafters each month.
